For those who thought that Google has the monopoly as far as search engines are concerned, well, think again. Though Google is still at the top, it has started receiving competition from various quarters albeit at a smaller scale. Alexa is one search engine that was thought to give some competition to Google in some quarters of the world. On the lines of Alexa and Google Trends, Complete, Inc has come up with Snapshot. Snapshot is thought to be much more accurate then Alexa but there are certain limitations that might thwart the popularity of Snapshot. Firstly, in Snapshot one can compare only three sites. Secondly, sites with less that 10000 uniques are excluded and thirdly, this is available only for the US audience. These three limitations still keep Google the favorite followed by Alexa.

This should not be seen as entirely a bad thing. Part of the growth in paperback sales comes from quality paperback versions of picture books, now widely available, but almost unknown 20 years ago. Also, since many of these imprints publish reprints of previously published books, a hardcover is published first, so some of these paperback sales support hardcovers, and also make more books available in a format that more families can afford. Paperbacks can do other things to support a hardcover line. Late in 1996, before the Newberys were announced, paperback rights to one of the contenders were sold to Hyperion after a lively auction for $250,000. This sale helped the original publisher's bottom line considerably. Even when a paperback is published by another division of the originating publishers, it will reach a much wider audience than the hardcover did; companies now look at expected hardcover and paperback sales when making an acquisition.

It’s difficult to write a review for a new edition of a book you’ve read before. Do you write the review to cover the new material, or from a holistic point of view, espousing the merits of the work as a whole since its first publish date? In the case of the third edition of The Business Side of Creativity, I’m going with the latter, for two simple reasons:

1. I’ve read my second edition copy three or four times cover to cover. I am intimately familiar with the content.
2. This is the best book on the topic, period.

The consultant also shows them how to write snappy blog titles that tend to fare better on social news sites. What doesn’t happen, however, is the company and the “consultant” deciding what the goals are. As such, the company now knows how to use Facebook but they have no idea why they are using Facebook. Or, perhaps more accurate: they know how to use Facebook, but they do not know how to use Facebook to fulfill their marketing needs. After all, the way a B2B company uses Facebook is likely very different from the way a new music-focused e-commerce site does.
